Offshore wind turbines develop rapidly in the world for there are manyadvantages, such as the stability of the wind energy resource, high wind speed, nopollution and so on. The research and development of wind power equipment is oneof the hottest issues of the engineering and technical fields. The wind turbines in deepwater always use floating foundation. The experiment of floating foundation foroffshore wind turbines is a widespread concern in the marine engineering. It is ofgreat significance for promoting the progress of offshore wind turbines.This article begins with an overview of the experiment progress of offshore windturbines, then introduces the theory on the model test of offshore wind turbines. Basedon semi-submersible floating foundation and Spar floating foundation for offshorewind turbine, a model experiment have been designed.Based on the foundation of offshore wind turbine, considering the mooring lines,tower and blade, the models of wind turbine has been tested under wind and waveloads. The wind turbine motion was measured using a digital video camera trackingthe motion of LED’s placed on the model under the different sea conditions and windspeeds. The inherent characteristic of wind turbine, the RAOS, and the effects underthe steady wind are showed in this paper.Based on the comparison of test results, the conclusions are as follows:1) thepaper get the natural period of floating wind turbine by the free decay tests.2) thewind machine has great effect on the position floating wind turbine pitch and surge.3)the floating foundations have the great movement performance.4) through thecomparison of two kinds of floating foundation, semi-submersible floating foundationhas smaller motion in surge and pitch, the pitch of Spar type floating foundation hasexcellent performance in short period wave.5) the constant wind has very smallimpact on heave and surge, and has a greater impact on the pitch in the longer periodwaves.According to the result of experiment, the power generation of the floatingfoundation and the viability are evaluated in different sea condition.
