Building Material Expression Strategy And Practice Research

So far the development of modern architectural design, architects and space in theshape processing have become increasingly mature. As in the architectural design ofbuilding materials has been of concern, its performance is also increasingly important.Especially with the advent of the era of the subject experience, materials expressionbecomes more diverse. Therefore, the performance of the material focus onperformance and interpretation, research and improve the design and use of buildingmaterials, developed building design is an important ideas and methods.By analyzing the process of material expression research, with the perceptualcharacteristics of material as the research object, from the phenomenology ofperception of value theory of subject experience, material expression strategies are putforward based on the study of material perceptual expression in aspects of objectrender and subject experience. Therefore architects can make better use of materials toshape suitable architectural form and space to satisfy people’s changing demand oflife and emotion.The first chapter is an introduction which describes the background andarchitectural importance of material expression and retrospection of researches onmaterial expression. The second chapter is the basis information and function ofmaterial expression, including the concept, the property, nature and authenticity andperceived characteristics of material. The third and fourth chapter research perceivedperformance of material in two aspects of object expression and subject experiencerespectively: use modern technology to enrich different materials expression; and usematerials to pay more attention to people’s everyday experience including timelinessand symbolic and people’s the memory of the past including regional and digitalimage materials of memory, to explore how to build a humanistic spirit of place withadvanced forms of mental perception. The fifth chapter sums up the materialexpression strategies. And last chapter presents four excellent cases of AA studio todiscuss how to apply these material expression strategies synthetically and to helparchitects make better use of materials.
