The rising of power demand, shortage of traditional sources and theintegration of distributed generation will make a great difference todistribution network. Traditional passive distribution network need to betransfered to active distribution network which has the ability of activecontrol. Active distribution network has the ability that integrating kinds ofdistributed generation, which can improve the capability of integration ofrenewable sources, usage of distribution network and defer the upgrade ofnetworks, while it can improve the power quality and reliability. To get thebest performance of active distribution network, it is necessary to researchthe method of active distribution network planning.Firstly the concept, characteristic and key technology of activedistribution network are detailed in the paper. Besides active management ofactive distribution network is introduced. Secondly according to thecharacteristic of active distribution network, the method of distributedgeneration planning is proposed under active management. The planningmodel is a bi-level one, whose objective is minimizing the comprehensivecost of distributed generation and curtailment of distributed generation. Theadaptive genetic algorithm and prime-dual interior point method are used tosolve the optimization problem. Thirdly, on the basis of the activemanagement, the active distribution network bi-level planning model isproposed. The objective of the model is minimizing the annual networks cost. The solution methodolody is the improved partheno-genetic algorithm andadaptive genetic algorithm. Then, A unified model considering both DG’s siting and sizing and network structure is developed, which is solved byalternate iteration method. Finally, the planning methods above are validatedon an active distribution network design; and optimal planning schemes areobtained.
