Along with the rapid development of industrial society, human demand for internalcombustion engine present the trend: mass, high quality and variety. This determines thedirection of internal combustion engine assembly technology development, which isautomation, flexibility and intelligence.Diesel engine valve lash adjustment is a critical andessential process in in the process of engine assembly, it restricts the quality and theproduction cycle time of diesel engine.The common method to adjust valve lash, however,is either manual adjustment by person using some simple tools or automatic adjustment byspecial equipment in an assembly line. The former not only has a low accuracy but also isinefficient, and the latter is difficult to achieve flexible production. is the artificial easy tooladjustment and using special equipment to automation;The former not only accuracy is nothigh and low efficiency, the latter is difficult to achieve flexibility.Therefore designing ahigh precision of both flexible and efficient automatic valve lash adjustment equipment isurgently expected by a number of internal combustion engine production manufacturers.This issue mainly researches the method and key technology how to achieve the valvelash automatic adjustment of three kinds of diesel engines on the same assembly line.Themain detailed research contents are as follows: Give a solutions of diesel engine valve lashautomatic adjustment system based on industrial robot, as well as design some mainmechanical structure suchas the crankshaft rotating unit, the CAM base circle detectionunitand valve lash adjustment unit;Research the crankshaft rotating unit positioningmeasurement technology and the positioning principle and selection of laser displacementsensor, analyse robot kinematics and establish the unit positioning measurement model, andproposethealgorithmofthecrankshaft adapter facenormalsandend facecircle, and analysepositioning accuracy ofthe crankshaft rotationunit;Reaseachthe CAM base circle detectionprinciple and method using lengthgaugeto measure, and analysethedetectionerror;Reseachthe adjustment principle, strategy and gauge method for valve lash adjustment, and thefactors causing adjustment value error as well as calculate the error value qualitatively.thedetailed adjustment strategy research mainly contains the adjustment path analysis, the calculation and analysis of the spindle’s speed and torque and the force of the push-pullcylinder.At the end of this issue, a simple and convenient FTQ (First Time Quality) test methodand test result on the valve lash adjustment are presented and analyzed.
