| With the rapid development of Chinese economy and the acceleration of theurbanization in recent years, the issue of ecological environment facing the city hasbecome the focus of attention. As an important part of the city, the campus has beenfeatured by a large population density and low greening rate, which has made it hard toimprove the ecological environment on the campus and also deprive the teachers andstudents of a comfortable space for the study, work and life. Hence, it has become anurgent task to improve the campus ecological environment, ease the heat island effect aswell as promote the roof greening on the campus. Especially for those cities with a greatnumber of universities, it has been of great value to carry out the roof greening for thereason that the increase of greening area will effectively improve the overall greeningrate of the city. The roof greening on the campus will not only establish newrecreational space for the teachers and students, but also explore the new area designedfor the special experimental and teaching activities according to the requirement of theschool. In Xian City that is a home for many universities, the construction andtransformation of roof greening on the campus has been also in progress.By making a field study of the roof greening in many universities of Beijing andXian, this paper has also identified a common problem for most universities in carryingout the roof greening. It should be noted that the building with the greening roof hasbeen still the minority in the whole campus. For those universities with few buildings, the roof greening will help improve the air quality and also increase the living space forthe teachers and students. However, for those universities with many buildings, theexisting mode of campus roof greening only has a limited effect on improving the wholeecological environment on the campus. What is more, the current design of roofgreening has been basically the same as that of other public buildings and also remotelylinked with the campus itself. Targeted at those problems, this paper has proposed theconcept of the whole roof greening on the campus. By collecting the basic theories ofroof greening and studying the design of the overall roof greening adopted in QujiangDivision of Xian Jiaotong University, this paper has also come up with the designconcept and method of the overall roof greening, which will be presented as follows:Firstly, the choice of the plant should be based on the regional analysis of thegeographical location of the campus. The factors of the local climate, ecologicalcondition and landscape plant of the campus should be taken into consideration.Secondly, in order to establish the greening roof with the campus characteristic, moreefforts should be made to deeply analyze the cultural background, design method andlandscape design of the campus as well as the target group and the function of thebuilding. Thirdly, during the course of choosing the suitable greening roof, an in-depthanalysis of the building height, lighting condition, bearing capacity, waterproof abilityand the requirement of the campus should be also conducted. Fourthly, combined withthe overall condition of the campus, building, target group and the budget, the design ofroof greening on the campus will be made.To conclude, the design method and concept of roof greening on the campus abovewill be of great value to overcome the shortcoming of the existing roof greening andalso provide some reference for the future development of the campus roof greening. |
