With the development of economy and the improvement of urbanization level year by year, the amount and density of various buildings are increasing. Nevertheless, the city green area available become less and less, which have made the contradiction between the development land and the city green land more and more prominent. Taking Shanghai as an example, which is known as a metropolis with high density and land shortage, the lack of green land causes the environmental and ecological problems more and more serious. Particularly, when it comes to some city center areas, the extremely expensive land made the housing price rising continuously, and therefore the available green land is getting rare. However, when people scramble for the valuable land, they often ignore the roof space which is often wasted. Developing the regional characteristic roof greening in the city center seems the only way for Shanghai to develop in this situation, which is the important pattern to improve and perfect the horizontal, vertical and three-dimensional greening layouts.Though analyzing related knowledge and case studies, we can find the meanin g of building green roof. According to the benefit of function, my thesis focus on the v alue of green building in architectural, urban city, human psychology and social econo my. Moreover, doing green roof experiments in the field work, though currently techn ology and condition, and doing research, analyze, practice on design method, construc tion technology and creative case studies. In the essay, I talked about the material for m of the vertical structure which apply to the green roof, load requirements, the level of construction technology and maintenance method and economic feasibility. I refere ed that the influence made from lightweight design, waterproof, drainage design and d esign of water supply. In addition, I strongly combined theoretical basis which I menti oned in the thesis, made systematic analyze on different kind of green roof, especially made detail explanation on design construction technology. Finally, I indicated that th e development trend of green roof which will happen in the technical characteristic an d landscape design. Furthermore, I definitely clear that the construction of the green r oof is rapidly development to industrialization and intensification. Under this backgro und, there are significant and reality meanings in researching the technology of green roof design.
