| Nowadays, the large retail commercial building has become an integral part ofurban construction, and it also plays an increasingly significant role in everyday life.With the development of economy and the improvement of people’s living standard, thesocial groups raise more and more requirements for business environment. For largeretail commercial building, the importance of subsidiary public restroom design couldnot to be underestimated, however, it is often easily overlooked by designers andcommercial companies, what’s more, the studies of related issues are still scanty.Xi’an is one of the six major national regional central cities in China, the largestcity in Northwest and also the economic, sci-tech, education centre and touristattraction. In recent years, With the continuous efforts to build Xi’an into aninternational metropolis, the introduction of a large number of private corporateinvestment, and with the addition of lots of mega-event to be held, many large retailcommercial buildings have been constructed and flourished, in which advancedequipment are installed, the quality and quantity of public restroom has also beengreatly improved. But there is still a long way to go to reach the acme of perfection.Should the public restroom closely related to customer groups deserves more work toimprove it’s service quality for the sake of achieving both high level and humanizedstandard, how should the designers do to creat the comfortable and convenient restroomwith more observation and empathy. Aiming at this hot spots of society, this paper attempt to carry out the research and make a probing analysis of the pubic restroom inlarge retail commercial buildings in Xi’an.In order to improve and avoid the deficiency and defect in the public restroomdesign of the large retail commercial building, this paper proceed from reality to studythe issue, through a lot of field research, using ergonomics, psychology and theevaluation of built environment, ekistics, mathematical modeling and related disciplineswith corresponding research methods, combined with the the actual research condition,the evaluation from customers and statistical data, the customer groups’ usingcharacteristics of public restroom in the large retail commercial building has beenfound, sequentially, space design strategies of public restroom and using proportion ofmale and female was further investigated. Meanwhile, through the investigation of thesuccess cases in some developed regions which has also been used for reference, thispaper attempt to arrive at practical and rational public restroom design patterns in thelarge retail commercial buildings combined with theory and practice. The followingfour factors scientificity, sociality, cultural property and humanization are also takeninto account. Based on the above, this paper put forward restroom design strategy forthe purpose of facilitating the customer groups, reflecting the business-to-customer careand conveying the design philosophy of commercial buildings.Based on the care for this city, the high expectations placed on large retailcommercial building in Xi’an, more importantly, in consideration of the experience ofourselves when using restroom, this paper focus on the design of public restroom inlarge retail commercial building, put forward some improvement suggestions andinvestigate the requirement for using restroom of different customer groups.Additionally, through supplementing the practical theory of the public restroom designin large retail commercial building and providing relevant theoretical guidancecombined with related code, this paper reached the socially adaptable, scientific,humanized rational distribution and in-house facility design method to offer referenceand guidance for future design practice. |
