From ancient times, the development of human society is closely related withwater. Ever since human beings on the planet, mankind was doomed intrinsically linkedwith water. Haidong Prefecture in Qinghai due to its unique geographical environmentand geographical features, has developed a unique urban morphology, developmentHaidong are inseparable whole riverfront. However, with the economic developmentover the past decade and continues to accelerate the process of building the city ofHaidong Prefecture, fragile ecological and environmental problems have becomeincreasingly prominent, urban waterfront is facing unprecedented opportunities andchallenges.From the Northwest semi-arid areas in which the Qinghai HaiDong start usingurban design, landscape design, landscape ecology theory and other disciplines todiscuss and analyze a variety of problems and semi-arid northwest city waterfrontfacing and problem solving method. Papers from the first semi-arid northwest practicalproblems of urban ecological construction began, then analyzes the profiles andsemi-arid areas of the city northwest waterfront, highlighted the status of typicalclimatic characteristics and problems of urban waterfront. Second question the statusquo habitat unit proposed design methodology implementation, and discusses thedifferent scales were swells habitats and habitat unit space is divided city waterfrontunit element analysis. Finally, through the practice of design case-specific design Troissix shore of Qinghai HaiDong urban waterfront city of habitat unit constitutes apreliminary application of the theory and verification. Thus, habitat unit in the process of urbanization is an effective way to designecologically fragile environment and the construction of urban waterfront, effectiveorganization and division of habitat units in urban waterfront environment designapplication is the core conclusion of this paper.
