Now, with the improvement of quality of life, medical technology of our country is alsoimproved. How the advanced science and technology can become products for seniors and thedisabled is an important topic of the rehabilitation engineering research. Recent years, the increasingnumber of aging people and physical disabilities dramatically promotes the developments of walkingauxiliary tools---electric wheelchair, but Chinese electric wheelchair manufacturers mainly useimported wheelchair controller, which greatly increases the cost of wheelchair. Thus, independentresearch of wheelchair controller has important practical meaning and has become a trend of medicalequipment industry.According to the design requirements of electric wheelchair controller, this paper designs ahandle controller of electric wheelchair which uses PIC18F45K80as the master chip.It can controlthe motor drive based on the user’s demand. Handle controller can communicate with powermanagement module and motor drive module through CAN-BUS, increasing functionality scalability.Using the Y axis signal of joystick and X axis signal to set the speed, then we can get the speeds ofthe motors to realize functions of going forward, backward, turning left, turning right and so on.Meanwhile, the handle controller combines the motion control and position control together andthere is a new function—position memory function, according to the key signal and calculation wecan get the information of position actuator, this new function makes users operate easier if theywant the posture of wheelchair they like most.The studies of electric wheelchair handle controller based on PIC18F45K80have shown that:This controller can achieve360-degree directional control and three-posture control with goodcontrol effects, it has good communication results with the power management module and themotor drive module.Besides users can expand out more functional modules according to their actualneeds.
