The electric power monitoring system is an important part of the power system, it includes data acquisition units、communication units and data processing units. Fault data acquisition unit for each line of information collection in real-time, the communication unit is responsible for the transmission of data, the data will be processed in processing unit finally. This thesis mainly focuses on the ad hoc networks research in the monitoring system of electric power communication. Firstly, mainstream wireless access protocols are introduced. Then, focus on the analysis of the two kinds of routing protocol in wireless network, including the proactive routing protocols and on-demand routing protocols. Proactive routing protocol OLSR is a link state routing protocol, with rapid response capability, so it has high real-time and other advantages, comparing with other protocols in ad hoc and the main line of communication. On demand routing protocol AODV, the node does not maintain routing in real time. Through the analysis of two kinds of routing protocols, it can obtain the ability to adapt to different environments of two kinds of routing. Be aimed at the monitoring system of electric power, this thesis gives the design method of the overall structure and the communication unit.At last, use OPNET to simulate Zigbee and MANET network. The simulation of Zigbee, mainly to analysis the delay performance and process of establishment of the network, in different traffic and different number of nodes condition. From the results of simulation, the advantages and disadvantages of various protocols can be elicited, so, it can provides guidance for better applicaion in engineering.
