Relied on the sub project of the national 973 program assumed by professor Zhou Zhixiang, in this paper, combined with the finite element analysis, the bearing capacity estimate method of masonry structure considered the weathering effect and transverse cracks is explored based on existing research results. The research results is applied in the Daxi river No.3 bridge(a stone arch bridge with the span of 60m) in Fuling district of Chongqing City. The main research works are as follows:The calculation model of the masonry structure bearing capacity considering the defects, weathering, transverse cracks and longitudinal cracks is discussed. The influence of weathering to the bearing capacity of masonry structure is analyzed, the estimate method of the influential factor of weathering is obtained.According to the finite element model, the influence of transverse cracks on the mechanical behavior of masonry structure is studied. The influence of different types of transverse cracks(the depth of crack, number of cracks) on bearing capacity of masonry structure is analyzed, then the method to estimate the reduction coefficient of the bearing capacity considering the effect of transverse cracks is obtained.On the basis of the existing theoretical relation between the slenderness ratio and stability coefficient of the masonry structure, The influence of different types of longitudinal cracks on bearing capacity of masonry structure is analyzed, then the method to estimate the reduction coefficient of the bearing capacity considering the spacing, length and depth the longitudinal cracks is obtained.A stone arch bridge reinforcement scheme proposed the research group is introduced, namely use the groove shaped reinforced concrete rib to reinforce the main stone arch. The research results are applied to estimate the bearing capacity of the main stone arch before reinforcement, the mechanical behavior under different load cases of the whole bridge after reinforcement is analyzed, results showed the this reinforcement scheme can significantly enhance the bearing capacity and performance of arch bridge.
