Nowadays, the features of veneer loading forces are common in hollow slab bridges. To solve this kind of problem, my tutor Professor Zhou proposed a method to reinforce hollow slab bridges with clamp coupling method depend on the branch subject of the national 973 project. The reinforcement principle can enhance the lateral integrity of hollow slab bridges when setting upper and lower steel beams at its mid span and other locations so that the hollow slab bridges can have the integral force. In this paper, for the forces of hollow slab bridges under different problematic hinge joints, the author has done some researches about reinforcing hollow slab bridges with clamp coupling method. The main researches are as follows:① According to the practical problematic features of hinge joints of hollow slab bridges, these features can be devided into four typical forms, such as hinge joints in good condition, hinge joints in dislocation, hinge joints with broken cross-section and hinge joints in off-state. The four forms combined in proper proportion can simulate the actual problematic hinge joints of hollow slab bridges. Various stress states of hollow slab bridges can be calculated precisely under different problematic hinge joints with solid finite element.② Detailed analysis was made on reinforcing the hollow slab bridges with different spans by clamp coupling method. Thus the relation formula about shear stiffness of steel beams needed was obtained for hollow slab bridges with different spans.③ The author also made an analysis about the effects of reinforcing the hollow slab bridges with different width, and relation curve was obtained about the shear stiffness of steel beams and different bridge width. The results show that the bridge width have little infulence on reinforcing hollow slab bridge with clamp coupling method.④ The engineering background is Shangqiu bridge in Henan. After being reinforced by clamp coupling method, both the stress state and intregral force of the bridge got good improvement. Thus, the theory about applying the clamp coupling method to reinforce hollow slab bridges turns out to be efficient.
