Methanol gasoline has good antiknock performance, good cleaning performance, low carbon and environmental protection, raw materials is easy to obtain and other advantages. But in the course of using methanol gasoline,methanol and its combustion products mixed into lubricating oil may cause severe engine cylinder liner corrosion and wear. This paper mainly studies the immersion corrosion test, friction and wear test, cavitation experiment to estimate the effect of methanol gasoline and its combustion products to cast iron of the engine cylinder liner material.By immersion corrosion test and surface observation method examine the corrosive effects of methanol gasoline and combustion products on cast iron of cylinder liner material, it found that methanol and methanol gasoline do not corrode iron, but its combution products such as formaldehyde and formic acid are corrosive to cast iron, formic acid is the most corrosive. Using reciprocating friction and wear tester module examines the effects of formaldehyde and formic acid wear on the cast iron material,it found that the wear and coefficient of friction became lower after the addition of formaldehyde and formic acid, but the wear of its pair material increase. Using ultrasound transducer simulation flow through the sample of methanol gasoline and combustion products mixed with lubricant generate ultrasonic frequency pressure waves, build the engine cylinder liner cavitation wear simulation test device, to study methanol and its combustion product’s cavitation characteristics, the results showed that methanol cast iron cavitation is very weak, and formic acid have a largest impact on cavitation,and formaldehyde followed, water promote the formaldehyde on cast iron material cavitation. Methanol and its combustion products on the cylinder liner cavitation is mainly the result on bubble corrosion, erosion corrosion and electrochemical corrosion of the combined effects.Selected tungsten carbide coating, which is of high strength and high hardness, as a liner protective coating. For the greatest impct of formic acid on the electrochemical characteristics in the whole process, protective coating of tungsten carbide and non-protective coating on the electrochemical properties of the cast iron material tested in 0.02% and 1.5%formic acid solution, found in both solution, the tungsten carbide coating can reduce the acid corrosion of cast iron materials, and plays an inhibitory effect.
