Geosynthetic reinforced pile supported embankment is considered a new method of soft foundation treatment in. recent years. It has obtained some success in many engineering projects. The method unifies effectively horizontal strengthen body and vertical strengthen body and not only can enhance the ground supporting capacity, but also can reduce the settlement of the embankment, the different settlement and the movement of abutment. The working mechanism of the geosynthetic reinforced pile supported embankment and piled abutment is very complicated, so currently there is no specification about load transfer mechanism between geosynthetic reinforced pile supported embankment and piled abutment constructed on soft soils in our country.Aiming at the widespread diseases existed in piled abutment constructed on the deep soft clay and the lack of design methods and construction deficiencies in existing codes, the paper analyses load transfer mechanism and design method between geosynthetic reinforced pile supported embankment and piled abutment constructed on soft soils using the numerical software ABAQUS,in order to provide theory basis for design. The main research works are as follows:(1) Summary analysis of the kinds of diseases and the cause on bridgehead area appeared often behind abutment;(2) Aiming at the widespread diseases existed in piled abutment, the paper summary and research the main prevention and control measures of the diseases, and the control standards of the relative settlement and abutment antedisplacement;(3) Using the ABAQUS finite element program established the pile-supported reinforced embankment and bridge abutment model,it systematically studies the interaction characters of the bridge abutment-embankment-foundation, including the level displacement of bridge abutment, the settlement of embankment, the bending moment of abutment pile, and their change law and so on. At the same time, the paper analysis the consolidation of the deep soft foundation;(4) The paper analysis the influences of the properties of the whole bridge abutment area, and it proposes some views about construction of the pile-supported reinforced embankment and bridge abutment on soft soil;(5) The stability of the bridge abument on soft soil is analysed, Including the potential sliding surface, shear zone, etc.
