With the development of ship design and propulsion technology, propulsion system of twin-controllable pitch propeller twin-rudder is applied in more and more modern ships and thus the study on that kind of ships’ manipulation and propulsion performance is of theoretical and practical significance.This paper studies maneuvering model of twin-controllable pitch propeller twin-rudder ship, maneuverability optimization and establishing ship motion virtual reality simulation system which can demonstrate manipulative capability of ship model intuitively. This paper has completed the following work:(1) A MMG maneuvering model of twin-controllable pitch propeller twin-rudder ship is built according to example ship data by building mathematic model of hydrodynamic force and torque affected on ship, propeller and rudder individually. The model is used in manipulative simulation.(2) Optimizing maneuverability and propeller load of twin-controllable pitch propeller ship aiming at improving turning ability of ship and reliability of pitch adjusting equipment in use of the particle swarm optimization algorithm, specifically, the characteristic value of ship’s turning circle and variations of internal and external propeller load are studied.(3) Digital simulation and virtual reality simulation of twin-controllable pitch propeller ship motion and propeller driving mechanism are achieved. The digital simulation part calculates parameters of ship motion model including ship position, speed and course angle by using Matlab/Simulink. And the characteristic value will be reflected in ship model of visual interface in real-time. The virtual reality simulation part establishes virtual simulation system of ship motion based on Vega platform and can obtain parameters of ship motion through application programming interface of Vega. The propeller hub model created in 3D max can be optimized in Creator. The model will become a dynamic one by adding DOF node and the 3D real-time animating demonstration function of hub operating principle is achieved.
