Cable transmission capacity depends on its electrical parameters which relates to the components material performances, the geometric construction dimensions and cable laying conditions. It is essential in the cable design and manufacturing process to calculate the electrical parameters based on cable operation and installation environment, design the cable construction dimensions based on geometric construction dimensions and material performances.This text firstly describes the EHV cable’s the relevant principle and the main electrical parameters. Secondly, It focus on analysis of cable circuits long term operation, making the cable transmission capacity to reach its potential, and cable heat flux fundamental and its equation. The cable hot stabilities in the constant load, i.e. the cable long term current capacity allowed under the stable operation condition is also discussed in the text. Referring to the EHV cable, the effective design calculation was developed with Java language. It also describes the soft modules functions and technical solutions. According to the clients’ requirements, the software may calculates and adjusts the cable parameters to make the design optimized. It has the advantages of well organized, clear functions, readable, easily maintained and extended. It is an easily and effective tool for the professional designers in power cable manufacturers, design institutes or others.
