With the rapid development of power industry, power system sets more stringent requirements on the insulating levels of its electrical equipment. Insulating performance directly affects the stable operation and safety of power system. High voltage bushing, which is used with high voltage electrical equipment, is a key structural component. Insulating performance has become an important topic in the field of high voltage electricity. In recent years, the amount of direct and indirect accidents is increasing due to the failures of bushing, which causes enormous economic losses. Therefore, ensuring the safe and stable operation of bushings has the immeasurable value for the entire power system.Domestic and foreign researches have proposed several design programs regarding bushings used in part of different voltage levels. However, we still haven’t got a complete set of theories and methods yet, which can guide the design of bushing and the optimization of insulating structure. In this paper,63kV high voltage AC condenser bushing is chosen as our study subject. According to the applicable conditions of the bushing, the study and design of insulating structure are carried out, and then we proposed a set of design ideas and projects of bushings used in different high voltage levels.For the insulating characteristics of condenser bushing, this paper focuses on the design of internal and external insulation of bushing. For internal insulation called condenser cores, equal-capacitance method is applied to calculate the parameters of plates, and then we use equal-margin method to optimize the parameters of plates which have been calculated. We also form the software design package. For external insulation, this paper focuses on the contrasts of the insulating material and the selection of umbrella shape, and we propose the general method of external insulation design. Finally, we complete the whole design of bushing. According to the design project, the model of electric field analysis of bushing is set. We use ANSYS software to complete the establishment and calculation of finite element model. Then we get the electric field intensity distribution and analysis of the results of the bushing. Based on this, we optimize the structure of local site where the electric field values are sensitive. Then we propose the method of optimization of bushings used in special high voltage levels. The simulation results and experimental proof prove that the design of bushing is scientific and reasonable. The design ideas and solution this paper presents are feasible and can be applied to provide technical guidance for the same work.
