With the development of infrared counteraction technique, IR simulation technology and IR stealth technology of the armored vehicle have been hot topics concerning target signature, have great application values in improving the survival ability and fighting capacity of armaments.This paper does IR simulation of the vehicle and conducts some assessments on stealth technology,it contains the following aspects:1.The geometric model is established which contains external airflow field, the front of the vehicle body, turret, engine compartment, caterpillar and so on. The vehicle model is meshed to generate surface mesh and tetrahedral mesh. Based on the software "FLUENT", radiator and fans are simplified by the porous model and MRF model. Taking account of thermal characteristics of heating parts in the vehicle and external environmental conditions, the physical model is established to calculate the air flow combined with heat transfer inside and outside the armored vehicle. The 3D internal airflow field, external airflow field and temperature field of the vehicle are simulated by using "FLUENT", the result can provide the basis for investigating thermal characteristics of the vehicle.2.Considering solar radiation, celestial background radiation, terrestrial background radiation, material features of vehicle surface and other factors, according to the temperature distribution of the vehicle body, the IR radiation simulation model is established, the IR radiation distribution and important radiation parts of the vehicle are obtained. According to the temperature distribution and IR radiation distribution of the armored vehicle surface, the method through the detectable distance range of the vehicle to evaluate its IR signature is put forward. The influence that IR characteristic of the vehicle surface have over the detectable distance with detection under different angles in different planes is analyzed.3.Based on the IR radiation distribution of the original vehicle, a series of detailed design methods about stealth measures are provided and three kinds of stealth plan are set up. By using the infrared simulation method, the IR radiation characteristics and detectable distance range of the vehicle under different stealth plans are obtained. The best stealth plan is got by comparing and evaluating the results. These results also show that:In 3~5μm band, the average IR radiation intensity on top of the engine compartment in the best stealth plan is 30W/m2 lower than the original plan; The average detectable distance in the best stealth plan with detection in the YZ plane, XZ plane and XY plane is 2.2km,3.12km and 1.85km shorter than the original plan. Overall, increasing the thickness of insulation material inside the engine compartment has the most obvious stealth effect, other stealth measures also improve the IR radiation distribution, reduce the probability of the vehicle to be detected and have great significance for the design and evaluation of infrared stealth.
