With the application of steel frame in high-rise building and super high-rise building, failure mode and overall seismic capacity of steel frame structure become all countries’s designers concern research topics on earthquake. Under strong earthquake, beam-column connections absorb and dissipate seismic energy through forming plastic hinge, so that frame structure has enough seismic capacity. Traditional node doesn’t have enough ductility and occurs easily brittle failure, so the new ductility node has become a hot topic studied. Weaken node with its own advantage becomes a most studied ductile node form.Through weakening beam section away from beam-column connections, plastic hinge appears weakened area,and ductility of frame structure is improved.Through theoretical method, experimental method, and finite element method, this paper deeply researches failure mode and seismic performance of steel frame structure. Firstly, this paper researches failure mode and seismic performance of weaken node steel frame structure through theoretical method, and obtains the relationship between weaken parameter and them; then this paper verifies theoretical research, and researches failure mode, ductility capacity and seismic capacity of weaken node steel frame structure,and obtains the difference between weaken node steel frame structure and traditional node steel frame structure; Followed, this paper researches the weaken node steel frame structure through finite element method, and obtains correctness of finite element method through comparing with experimental result. Finally, this paper researches the influence of weaken parameters on ductility and the number of plastic hinges for two layers frame structure through finite element method. The result of this paper establishes foundation for weaken node applications in a multi-tall steel frame structure, and provides some references for future research.
