Asphalt concrete pavement is comfortable for driving, but its endurance capacity for heavy traffic is obviously insufficient. Cement concrete pavement can better withstand the heavy traffic,but compared with asphalt pavement the driving comfort is poor.In recent years, with the continuous development of our economy, truck load has been improved.In order to improve the driving comfort and heavy traffic capacity, road researchers proposed composite pavement structure.In this paper,composite asphalt pavement structure layer material,SBS+Superflex composite modified asphalt mixture was studied using performance and modification mechanism.First of all, raw materials test was carried out. The blending quantity of modifier was determined through the tests of raw materials testing and composite modified asphalt performance. At the same time, SBS+Superflex modified asphalt modifier added process was discussed.Secondly, the mix design of asphalt mixture was carried out. The optimum gradation of asphalt mixture and the optimum asphalt aggregate ratio were determined by the Marshall test.Thirdly, through asphalt mixture ratio getting from last step, specimen in a line were tested on road test performance of the mixture, including high temperature performance test, low temperature performance test, and water stability test of the mixture. Through the test, it is known SBS+Superflex modified asphalt mixture road performance is better than ordinary asphalt in all aspects, and it also has all the advantages of SBS modified asphalt mixture and Superflex modified asphalt mixture.This is also means that the SBS+ Superflex modified asphalt mixture is more suitable for the southern rainy regions.Finally, the modification mechanism of SBS+Superflex composite modifiedasphalt was analyzed,because SBS and Superflex these two kinds of modifier does not react chemically in the high-temperature asphalt, so the modification mechanism analysis should be carried out from the modification of SBS mechanism and Superflex modification mechanism analysis independently. Although both of them does not react chemically in high temperature asphalt, they absorb the Eugenol in matrix asphalt. Thereby a stable structure is formed in the matrix asphalt,when a modifier is excessive, it will affect another modifier.
