The entrance of urban area, as an intermediary space between settlements and cities, is an important part of space settlements. As the component unit of the residential area, the entrance influences the overall planning pattern of the residential area and shows the location of the residential district. With the development of the society and the improvement of the life, the design of the entrance varies with the needs and highlights its diversified space. As a transitional space, the entrance of the residential area is closely related to the urbban area and is the component of the city system.Chapter one states the background, purpose and significance of the research. After reviewing the literature of the general development situation of the entrance, the research methods and framework of urban residential entry are put forward.Chapter two describes the concept of city residential areas and entrance space and then points to the nature and characteristics of the research object. The analysis of the constitute elements of the residential entrance leads to get some information about its basic function and derivative function, which prepares for this study.Chapter three focus on the entrance patterns and characteristics of urban area. In the first part, the different patterns of the entrance are analyzed from the aspects of the plane, vertical and space, composition, traffic, primary and secondary entrance, entrance facade. The second part analyzes its characteristics.Chapter four interprets the design methods of the entrance of urban area. The design of the entrance follows the principle of integrity, humanity and economy and bases on its basic function to study the form and expression of the plane, facade and space. Meanwhile, the entry proportion, detail processing and techniques of expression are also put into the research.Chapter five focus on the construction method of the city attribute of residential area considering the development and changes of the entrance in the property of the society and the city. Through such an analysis, forming the flexible boundary and dynamic effect and then stimulating the diversification of spatial attributes is our goals. At the same time, the relation of the entrance and the city transportation and the open mode of the introduction of the city business are also put into the analysis.
