With the social and economic development, motor vehicle ownership increasing, urban intersection traffic congestion is getting worse. In recent years, the development of urban construction is very fast, in order to ease traffic congestion, road become more and more wider, the size of intersection is also growing, which greatly increases the difficulty of pedestrians through the intersection. Currently, majority of urban traffic signal control mainly on the basis of a smooth flow of vehicles, and did not fully consider the pedestrians factors. With the city’s living standards improve and accelerate of aging degree, pedestrian-friendly intersection traffic management and control method has aroused widespread attention. This paper will explore the optimal control at signal intersection with pedestrian factors, this will ensure pedestrians can cross street friendly, but also to ensure the smooth flow of the vehicle.First, the paper describes the traffic characteristics of pedestrian across street, proposed that make the laser radar detector and camera together to calibration and detect pedestrians. And proposed using the peak pedestrian traffic data and wavelet neural network algorithm to predict short-term pedestrian traffic. Pedestrian flow can be estimated. Be able to solve the pedestrian traffic information detection difficult, expensive equipment and data transmission time difference.Secondly, the paper analyzes the general principles of the intersection’s canalization, drainage proposed pedestrian-friendly design. Analysis of the signal phase design methods generally and phase sequence, proposed pedestrianization phase method. Be able to resolve the conflict between the intersections of pedestrians. Finally, the paper proposes a multi-objective optimization pedestrian-friendly intersection control model. This paper use the intersection capacity, vehicle delays, pedestrian delays and parking rates as performance indicators. Genetic algorithm is proposed for solving multi-objective function. And using intersection of Chongqing as a research object. Comparative analysis the change of in performance by consider pedestrian factors and without consider pedestrian factors.
