Companied with the advancement in electronic, computational, communication technology and high standard of living, human as a whole desires for higher quality of life. The requirement does not stop at satisfying the basic of the household needs, it has also advanced to need to satisfy the security, comfort and ease of every household member. All the requirements above have evolved current household to an intelligent integrated household product, encompassing the household network communication technology, security, automation, audio and video technology as a whole, building a highly efficient household routine management systems, enhancing security, ease, comfort, art, and environmentally friendly in all.This paper will provides a solution based on embedded ARM system, accompanied with GSM and WLAN wireless technology to solve the current need for intelligent household. The system will provide an automated control and surveillance system to survey on any immediate and emergency situation (illegal intrusion, fire hazard, gas leakage, etc), whilst providing the user with the first hand information on the problem detected through GSM short message services (SMS). The user will be able to use GSM SMS to remotely control and manage all household appliances (power supply, air-conditional, lighting, etc.) and all sensory devices within the house. All sensors within the house will be connected based on WLAN so that they could be control and manage on a single terminal.The solution proposed will be based on the host and client computational structure. The client will contain the embeddable control motherboard and MCU extended board. The embeddable control motherboard will mainly be used for collecting image data, sensor data, wireless connectivity for image data collection, analysis and process GSM short message services to provide control to all sensors in the household. The MCU extended board is mainly used to collect data from the sensor around the household and to make decision on the controlling of every sensor and wireless terminal point that is connected. The software will be built upon a Linux based operating system, with Bootloader, Linux Kernel and Root File System, QT for GUI creation, programming design based on modular functionality, which is used to designed image capture, wireless network communication, household appliances and terminal control system, GSM SMS control, and microprocessor programming.Accompanied with practical tests, this solution has been proved to be able to provide all functionality with stability.The created intelligent system is able to provide responsive feedback on any emergency situation to the user through the GSM SMS, with host capable of providing the image data and all required function prescribed. This solution has proven it’s practicality on usage. |
