Ship power plant is the most important mechanical equipment in boat, the quality of work status has a decisive role to the overall security of the ship. More of marine accidents occurred in recent years attributed to the ship power plant, in order to protect the human life and property, the safety management of ship power equipment must be reinforced. Exploring how to raise the level of ship power plant safety management is a very important work, which makes sense to water safety. At first, this paper introduced the safety assessment of marine power devices, and then it carried out a detailed analysis on ship power plant, Based on that, SPA is applied to analyze the safety of ship power equipment, whose safety assessment model is also setted up based on SPA. This paper elaborate the establishment of the evaluation index system, the distribution of weight, the partition of assessment level and the arithmetic of set pair connection degree. Combining the specialists’ viewpoints and data, a training ship is taken as an example, whose power equipment comprehensive safety assessment model is setted up based on SPA. In this model, four principal factors are analyzed in oder to acquire the influence on the safety of power equipment, they are marine main engine, propeller, shafting and auxiliary device. Example analysis shows that this comprehensive safety assessment model is reasonable, feasible and practical, this study offer a new thinking and scientific approach to the the comprehensive assessment of ship power equipment safety.
