With the development and application of the expressway, the expressway presents many diseases like water damage and low-temperature cracking during use. Small sample of the test is widely used for assessing the performance of asphalt mixture. But because of different particle size, irregular shape and random distribution of particles during the forming work lead to the inherent dispersion of the material properties, which results in the variations within the internal structure and stochastic of material properties. Therefore, there are variability between sample of the test and realities of situation that it cannot be able to satisfy the design request. So, in this paper, large sample test methods are used to research the property distribution law of asphalt mixture and looks for the method to determined the material control standards of asphalt mixture, which is based on the risk theory. The exploration of new methods of inspection and evaluation of asphalt mixture properties are carried out.The paper analyses the reason for the variability of asphalt mixture properties, and indicates the inevitability of the existence of material properties through large sample experiments and analysis. Considering the influence of impact type gradation on the asphalt mixture properties, select three groups of AC-16 asphalt mixture and a group of SBS asphalt mixture to do water stability and low-temperature crack resistance experiments, and fit the distribution of each property to determine its distribution. Research shows that the two-parameter Weibull distribution function represents the maximum flexural-tensile strain energy density and flexural strain energy density of low-temperature more properly, and the three-parameter Weibull distribution function represents the effect of water stability.Based on analysis above, quality control standards of asphalt mixture material are built, and performance parameters standards of asphalt mixture material are determined based on risk theory. Finally, because of the problems with the current specification, the inspection standards of mean (fa) and minimum value (maximum value) fmin are put forward.This paper will facilitate the research and development of inspection and evaluation for asphalt mixture material properties.
