In virtual simulation training platform of gas gate station, the biggest challenge is the 3D scene modeling, because it directly affects the reality and immersion of the virtual scene. At present, the 3D scene modeling still have some problems, like long modeling cycle and difficult to reuse. In order to solve these problems, a reusable and flexible 3D scene modeling method is proposed in this paper, it can solve the above problems successfully.Through analyzing the data of gas gate station, we propose hierarchical modeling of the scene and classification modeling of the property. The scene’s hierarchical modeling describes the spatial characteristics of the gas gate station and the order of rendering the scene graph. The property of the equipment is abstracted as entity model information, basics, electrical characteristics and data interface information for uncoupling the simulation object and logic. These information can be reused to build new equipment. In order to parametric modeling the equipment properties, we study the techniques of effects and simulation modeling to achieve data mapping with equipment properties. We also provide the configuration tool to expand properties.Based on the proposed modeling method, we implement the management of the equipment, which chooses the standard XML technology to manage the equipment information. The storage mode of the properties is designed in this system. The system also provides the visual interfaces to equipment management, property management and equipment showing.In order to prove the effectiveness of the above method, the framework of scene information management and development programs are designed. We ultimately implement the scene editing system which is based on the equipment library. This system can edit the scene graph, it also provide visual interfaces to complete scene extension and simulation. The experiment results show that the proposed method can improve the expansible and maintenance of the system; it also can reduce the cost of training. This paper has theoretical value and application value for the gas industry training, and it also gives data support to virtual simulation training platform of gas gate station.
