At present when society is in rapid development energy consumption has become increasing. At same time we are facing the serious problem of environmental pollution. The electric car is the product of the development of new energy science and technology, which has the characteristics of zero emissions and a broad market prospect and meeting with the current social development needs. One of the important part of PMSM as the drive system of electric vehicle, PMSM is with its high efficiency, energy saving. Accurate detection of the rotor position and speed are the key factors to realize high performance control system. However, the traditional sensor control approach not only increases the cost control but vulnerable to be interfered from external factors, affecting the accuracy of detection, so PMSM sensorless control technology has become one of the hot.This paper analyzes the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) mathematical model in different coordinates, which have a detailed analysis of the basic theory of vector control and speed control of PMSM using space vector pulse width modulation technology. The simulation model of PMSM vector control system has been built using MATLAB simulation tool. According to the performance index of control system with PMSM combined with operation condition of the electric vehicle, simulation curve is analysed. According to the method of sliding mode control, sliding mode observer is designed for PMSM estimation of rotor position and velocity to the realization of sensorless control. In view of the detection of rotor position is vulnerable to outside interference with resulting in lower control precision, sliding mode observer with the traditional can not meet the modern requirements of the control system, we need to design a new sliding mode of motor speed and rotor position to estimate more accurately. A new sliding mode control algorithm adopts two grade filtering, position compensation, switching function of the revision to improve traditional sliding mode control algorithm and simulation analysis is carried out on the platform of MATLAB. The simulation proves that: the actual speed and rotor position estimation of and the system and the speed and rotor position of the novel sliding mode control algorithm is very close and the error tends to zero. The system response time is short and have good robust.Through the research and analysis of the theory of control system of PMSM motor, the hardware experimental platform is set up with DSPF2812 of the main control chip. The subject adopts automatic code generation technology to analyse the improved algorithm. Through the debugging of the whole system analysis, it show that the novel sliding mode observer can accurately get the information of motor rotor position and speed, and the control system running in good condition, to meet the requirements.
