Establishing reliable distribution network fault line selection and location system become an urgent need of developing and establishing smart grid. Because the power distribution networks has a weak fault current and a complicated structure, there are a number of ways to solve the problem could not obtain good result. For solve this significant technical problems, a traveling-wave fault line selection and location method is studied.First, the existing research at home and abroad and the advantages and disadvantages of existing location methods are comprehensively analyzed. The traveling wave transmission characteristics in distribution network are researched, impacts of mixed line, multi-branch lines and distribution transformer on traveling wave transmission characteristics are analyzed. According to distribution network topology structure, a new configuration methods is proposed which combines heuristic search and simulated annealing with the goal of improving economics and the observability of distribution network. On the basis, a new distribution network fault line selection algorithms is proposed by compare the result of a multigroup D-type traveling-wave system. Based on research the transmission characteristic of initial traveling wave and the traveling wave from the first node, a new single-end fault location method is put forward which only use the reacher time of these two traveling wave. Finally, this paper uses a distribution network simulations of ATP to verify the traveling-wave fault line selection and location algorithms.The project proposed by this article can achieve the goal for optimization of traveling-wave detector, reducing the cost of such project. And it also can achieve the goal for fault line selection and location, and promote the spread of traveling-wave in distribution network...
