The manufacturing of HCL-02 plastic damper has the features of high production and low cost. For such components, handicraft assembly is the mode of production mostly used now. As the assembly automation is becoming more and more important in manufacturing industry, this paper designs a control system for the automated assembly of the damper, which can complete the whole assembly process with replacing handicraft mode, ensure the quality of the product, improve the working conditions, increase the labor productivity, and reduce the cost of production.Assembly automation consists of automatic feeding material, automatic transferring artifacts, automatic assembling, and automatic control. In this paper, through analyzing the dumper structures and assembly process, the control tasks of assembly control system is divided into three parts: upper plate workbench subsystem, under plate workbench subsystem and detection subsystem, including measurement of the damper resistance and height. The subsystems are connected by the CAN-Bus. And then designed the control part for the assembly system, including the selection of the controller and design the man-computer interaction interface. For the CAN-bus communication, designed the communicating process among the node and the content of the data frame, including ID identifier of specific message and data encoding of communications. Realized position fixed of workbench by controlling stepper motor with subdivision driving, combined with Hall sensor. Through the control of miniature cylinder and oil filling machine, ultrasonic welding machine’s switch movement process to realize the operation of the whole assembly process. In the process of torque test and height measurement, designed testing control system based on the resistance of the miniature dc motor and the height measuring control system based on resistance feet, complete hardware circuit and software design in this two test system.This paper set up a control model for the control system to simulate the movement of process flow. The measurement for testing precision of torque and the height has carried on the experimental test. It verified the feasibility of the overall control system control strategy, the stability and reliability of the hardware platform and software platform.
