With the rapidly growing needs of China’s large-scale water conservancy infrastructure, there are a large number of long water tunnel projects to be built. Thus,TBM construction technology with the advantages of advance speed, safety,environment protection has been becoming one of the main construction methods of the water tunnels.Taking Water Tunnel Project as the research background, in this thesis a great quantity of TBM jobsite boring data was acquired and the rock properties were tested in the lab. Based on these data, the correlation of TBM performance(penetration and advance speed), operational parameters and surrounding rocks was analysed.Furtherly, the surrounding rock classification method, TBM geological adaptability and optimum operational parameters were studied.In this paper, it was found that the giant porphyritic granite rock conditions,different uniaxial compressive strength and integrity corresponded to the different rock breaking index FPI, and according to the different FPI value the surrounding rocks of porphyritic granite could be classified. In different geological conditions of porphyritic granite, the driving performance of TBM is variable and regularly change with geological parameters; in the same geological conditions, with different driving parameters the TBM show different driving performance, the driving performance also regularly change with driving parameters. One method named ‘The optimum driving parameters selecting method based on the concept of less energy consumption’ was proposed in this paper, which provided the way to match the best driving parameters for energy-saving and max advance speed. In addition, through the jobsite tests of TBM assembly, stepping and boring, a new TBM stepping method to the starting tunnel face and a new rock support method for TBM getting through the bad rocks were proposed, tested and proved. Both of the methods have great value for the latter part of Liaoxibei tunnel project or future similar tunnel projects.
