Leaky coaxial cable, a wireless communication device, is able to transmit electromagnetic signals as a transmission line and transmit or receive electromagnetic waves as an antenna.Owing to its advantages of homogeneous signal covering,low loss,little electromagnetic pollution and strong environment adaptability, leaky coaxial cable has been widely used not only in closed or semi-closed space for wireless communication such as subways, mines and tunnels, but also in the detection of perimeter intrusion.Based upon the need of related applications of leaky coaxial cable, this paper focuses on the research of leaky coaxial cable’s design, radiating characteristics in subway tunnel and the transmission performance in the perimeter intrusion detection system.The contents of this paper can be divided into the following sections. Firstly, the basic knowledge of leaky coaxial cable is elaborated for a better understanding of its advantages in related applications. Secondly, two types of leaky coaxial cable are designed, one is coupling type and the other is radiating type. Thirdly, we put the radiating type of the leaky coaxial cable into the subway tunnel and analyze its transmission rules by ray tracing method and its radiating characteristics according to the results of the simulated calculation and the field measurement, in order to provide reference for engineering. Finally, the perimeter intrusion detection system based on leaky coaxial cable is designed in theory and the signal transmission characteristics between the two leaky coaxial cables of transmitting and receiving is analyzed in both theory and simulation, which provides an important reference for further design.
