Sags and swing caused by the deformation of the transmission line are the factors which threat the electric power network security. In order to prevent the harm caused by the sag and swing of the electric power transmission lines, the effective and reliable real-time monitoring system of power transmission lines has become very important for the safe operation of the electric power system. In this thesis, a high-precision monitoring system based on differential GPS(DGPS) is designed.The main contributions of this thesis are as following:1. According to the requirements of the real-time accurate measurement of the sag and swing of transmission lines, a real-time monitoring system within the scope of centimeter-level is designed by using the DGPS technique.2. To achieve the designed monitoring system based on DGPS, the corresponding hardware circuit has been designed and implemented, and the software of MCU has also been designed. After constructing and debugging the monitor system, the outdoor field test has been completed. The test results verify the feasibility of the monitoring system.3. Based on the verifying the feasibility of the designed system, the processing method of the output data obtained from the DGPS is designed. After the extraction and the coordinate transformation of the output coordinate data, a Kalman filter is designed to suppress the effects of errors and consequently improves the measurement accuracy.
