There are three ways to research the the fire in tunnels:site tests, model experiments and CFD simulations. Site tests in the most expensive ways even with its most accuracy. And the model experiments acquires suitable criterion numbers, it is similar to CFDs, for it ask for the appropriate numerical models.In this thesis, the suitable criterion numbers in the model tests and appropriate numerical models are discussed when it is applied to tunnel fire study.Criterion numbers are the soul of model tests, which relate the model tests with the phenomenons happened in the real world. The work in this thesis involving dimensionless and analysis of parameters functions in the tunnel fire, and appliance of the dimensionless criterion numbers in the study. There are two different criterion numbers, as one of the results in the thesis, which could be used in different range in the real tunnel fire:the scope near the fire source and that far away from the fire source.With a appropriate numerical model, the CFD could give a reliable prediction of the fluid field, which could reduce the workload and finance spended in the measure of the site and model experiments. The key and difficulty of CFD method’s appliance in the tunnel fire is the fire numerical model, which should be easy enough in the settings of CFD procedure so as to be suitable for the engineering practice, and accurate enough to the happening in real. In this thesis, several numerical models were analyzed and compared basing on the results of both CFD and model experiments, and in addition, the CFD model and the model experiments are with the same size in length dimension. At last, a most appropriate fire source CFD model are choosen to further the research, which is very important in the popularize of the research results.The innovation of this thesis is the parameter dimensionless, the new criterion number and the appropriate fire CFD model in the simuluation of tunnel fire.
