With the vigorous development of China’s high-speed rail way, EMU vehicles are widely used in railway operations. The PDL gradually spread throughout the whole country and become a kind of network structure. How to arrange the use of EMU vehicle has become the key to improving the efficiency of railway operations, however, the use of EMU vehicle is an important techniques for transportation organization. The main object is to minimize the number of EMU vehicles and the non-productive time during operation, so our goal is to optimize the use of EMU vehicle to make it the most efficient. The main contents of use of EMU vehicle include the travel time when the vehicle undertake tasks, the arrival time, the departure time, the travel mileage of EMU vehicle and the passing station, etc. If the travel time and travel mileage meet the line of maintenance standards, we should also refer to maintenance time. For the EMU vehicle using problems, this thesis combined with the relevant researches at home and abroad to optimize the use of EMU vehicle with the threshold of given operation diagram of EMU vehicles and the unique and maintenance principles of EMU vehicles. For the case of shortage of EMU vehicles, cannot be solved only by increase the bill of purchase with the reason of the high price of EMU vehicles. We can only solve this problem by optimizing the use of them. Therefore, reasonable arrangements became a breakthrough point of the study of this paper. The main object is to minimize the number of EMU vehicles under tasks in order to minimize the cost of vehicles and maximum the efficiency.By referring related articles about use of EMU vehicle, we first study the basic knowledge of EMU vehicles. Based on these basic knowledge, the main factors of efficiency of use of EMU vehicle was concluded as: train operation schedule, train operation diagram, the maintenance and use plan of EMU vehicle. Through the analysis of these factors, the EMU vehicle slicing and maintenance plan will be shown as the form of plots and diagrams. By analogizing the problems of use of EMU vehicle and the traveling sales man problem, we finally convert our problem to a special traveling salesman problem. Constraints to be considered are: uniqueness constraint, the constraint of connection time, the constraints of maintenance plan. Based on these constraints, we can build our objective function with minimum connection time between EMU vehicles and maintenance as design variables. The Ant Colony Algorithm was used to solve optimization problem of this study and a procedure to optimize the EMU vehicles. At the end, a real-world problem, Guang-Wu EMU schedule was used to verify the reliability of the model built in this thesis.
