Roadable aircraft is a new kind of vessels that can run on the ground and fly in the air. As a kind of roadable aircraft, the ducted vertical take-off and landing flying car will play an important role in the future urban traffic, emergency rescue and military transportation due to its features of compact layout, high speed, strong mobility and low noise. The research on flying car covers many areas like overall structure design, ground driving system, air posture control, power system, etc. It involves many disciplines such as mechanism, kinematics, structural dynamics, aerodynamics, information technology and automatic control.In this paper, the main content is analysis on aerodynamic characteristics of flying car by CFD method. As the premise and background, the paper briefly introduces the research status quo of flying car. on the basis of previous research the flying car is established, and the paper points out that the research on aerodynamic characteristics of the flying car by CFD method is of great importance.Ducted propeller is the propulsion system, at first, the structure parameters is given and the 3D model is built. CFD method is used to study the structure parameters how to effect aerodynamic characteristics of the ducted propeller. Simulation models with different blade tip clearance, ducted lip radius,propeller installation location and ducted spread angle are established, in the condition of a constant propeller speed, the paper analysis the effects on lift characteristics of ducted propeller when one of this structure parameters is changed.Secondly, based on aerodynamic theory and numerical simulation method, the aerodynamics performance( such as the elevating force of main duct, the impetus of promoted duct and the body pitching moment) while running on the ground and hovering in the air has been studied. The validation of the flying car under both moving modes has been verified.At last, Grid fins with different thickness, chord length, angle and propeller installation location are studied on aerodynamic characteristics and flight handling characteristics of flying car. In addition roll motion, pitch motion and yaw motion of flying car are analyzed, and the related structural parameters and flight parameters are determined.
