The AS/RS(Automated Storage and Retrieval System) is a typical automatic system which is a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, control engineering, communications networking, software engineering and other technique. The management and monitoring system are important parts of the AS/RS that in charge of the equipment control and the warehouse management. Presently, the research of the AS/RS software still have some deficiencies. The hardware cost of the AS/RS is pretty high. The failure rate is high and the reliability is not good enough. And the development tools of the industrial software is old so the design is not so clear and the development cycle and the extendibility also need to be improved.The system is build base on the C# Programming language, SQL Server 2008 database, and the SIMATIC OPC Server.The consist of the AS/RS is firstly analyzed, which particularly about the communication networks of the system. Then a detailed needs analysis of the software is conducted. Based on the needs analysis, the overa ll design is made, which include the modular design and the hierarchical design. The design combine the management subsystem and the monitoring system into a single software, which can lower the hardware cost.After the work done above, the work is focus on the detail design of some key modules of the system which include the database design, the framework of the information management system, the goods allocation management method, the input and output design. At last, the exception handling method is designed, which can improve the reliability of the system.UML is widely used in the analyze of the dissertation. Use Case Diagram is used in the demand analysis stage, Package Diagram is used to show the relationship between modules, Class Diagram is used to show the design of the classes, State Machine diagram and Deployment Diagram are also used in the design.The hardware cost is lowered by the deployment design. Aiming at the shortages of the industrial software mentioned above, the UML diagram, database modeling tool, software architecture are used in the the analysis and design. The system has been used in an AS/RS project of a factory. And it is proved to be stable and safety.
