As an important support structure of bridge, the status of piers will directly affect thestability and security of the whole structure. Thus, effective detection and damageidentification are necessary. Currently the assess of the railway piers are mainly accordingto the frequency and amplitude, but both are not accurate for damage identification of piers.Wavelet analysis which can detect small discontinuities in the signal has excellent analyticalskills. So the application of wavelet analysis theory to identify the railway pier damagehas important theory value and practical significance.Firstly, the paper describes wavelet singularity detection theory and structural damagedetection method based on modal parameters. Damage identification for structural diseasesof piers is analyzed in detail. At last, the paper proposes the method for pier damageidentification based on the modal parameters and wavelet transform specific to the railwaypiers.Based on finite element method, the paper validates method for pier damageidentification by using entity type piers of railway bridges. The paper also analyzestheoretically influencing factor on the identification of structural damage and studies noiseof damage identification and wavelet de-noising. In addition the pier damage identificationprogram is compiled based on the Matlab platform. Finally, based on the pier model tests, and according to transverse cracks and holes, thepaper demonstrates the feasibility of the method, and also effective test methods for damageidentification are summarized. Furthermore, the exploratory development of the proposedmethod is studied on practical engineering, the results show that the method has certainpractical significance and reference value.
