At the current era, with the rapid development of the economic globalization, the international economic links increasingly tightly. With the larger scale ocean-going vessels, increasing number of vessels and speed accelerate, the shipping industry has played an important supporting role in the global economic activities has become increasingly prominent. Simultaneously with there are frequent traffic accidents at sea, especially the collision caused structural damage to vessel, damage to the goods, the serious consequences of oil spills, such as environmental pollution and casualties.Vessel collision or grounding after damaged ship hull, one hand is weakened hull structure carrying capacity, on the other hand because of inlet water after damaged cargo hull and liquid outflow caused vessel floating condition and the external load distributions changed significantly. In this paper, will study the research status of hull strength, and compared the calculation method of the ultimate strength of the ship. Combined with the background of the current ship collision accident-prone, it is necessary to study the residual strength of damaged hull.Based on the ANSYS engineering software, according to requirements in the "Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers" for established the finite element model of vessel. Research strength and load indicators related to damaged hull. By finite element simulation different conditions for damaged ship, through the stress change by each major component, reaches conduct research and analysis the residual strength of the damaged hull. This article will use a bulk carrier as an example, using ANSYS, establishment of non-linear finite element model. Analog the loading of bulk carriers at a particular state, cabin break in different conditions, simulated cabin stress at the corresponding node when the key nodes, unit is not broken hulls for comparison, analysis and research.By comparing and analysis the three typical loading case(Normal Ballast、Light Cargo Homogeneous Loading、Heavy Cargo Homogeneous Loading), due to different loading cargo density (density ratio of3.0:0.8), the results showed that the stress of hold components in heavy cargo homogeneous loading case is larger than in the light cargo loading case, when cargo hold damaged, will have greater impact on the stress and the ship components will be more dangerous; Contrast the stress of the each major components in the diamond damaged, rectangular damaged, and the intact case, the results show that in the same area of the ship damaged, which with an irregular shape with a sharp damaged case, the stress near broken is more concentrated, and more harmful to the hull strength. According to the results of the analysis, hoping that can play a guiding role to bulk cargo ship operating problems encountered in service.
