With the consisting development of urban construction, the number and scale ofloads in city distribution networks have been increasing, meanwhile users’ requirementson the reliability and quality of power supply have been improving. As the distributionsystem is located the terminal part of the power grid and is directly connected to theusers, so it would be very important to keep distribution systems safe and economical.Network reconfiguration and reactive power optimization are two useful measuresto the economic operation. The character that the distribution network is designed inclosed loop and operated in open loop, so there is an optimal network of eachdistribution network which has the minimum power loss. Reactive power optimizationmeans to make out a best plan of the capacitors so that the network has the minimumpower loss and achieve the purpose of economic operation.On the basis of two major measures to improve economic operation of distributionnetwork, a method is putting forward which combines the two measures together toimprove the economic operation of network. Based on the ideal network topology thathas been proved by network reconfiguration, optimized operation has been applied toprocess reactive power compensation operation to the network.This paper describes the structural characteristics of the distribution network, andthen analysis of the distribution power flow calculation method which is based on thestructural characteristics of the distribution network. The push back on behalf of theformer method is chosen as the flow calculation methods. Through analysis andcomparison with the traditional method of reactive power optimization and artificialintelligence methods, we chose immune genetic algorithm as our base algorithm.The two measures process on the same network, so that skill index data of systemsuch as active power loss, the node voltage value and electric energy quality are muchbetter than using only single optimization operation, which achieves the purpose ofimproved the economic operation of the distribution network. Finally, a standard example is calculated and the calculation result shows that the method in this paper iseffective.
