| Murals are now widely used in the architecture of subway stations. Murals not onlybeautify the building environment of subway stations, nurture the aesthetic appreciation ofpeople, and make stations more identifiable, but also bear some functionality.During the past decades, with the fast proliferation of subway constructions in China,architectural murals of subway stations have undergone rapid development. However, currentarchitectural murals are usually incompatible with the architectural environment and hencerestrict the level of subway station’s overall aesthetic value.Integrating architectural murals with subway environment is an important factor duringthe design stage of subway murals. Related research, especially practical case studies, is veryscarce in this area both at home and abroad. This work comprehensive studies both the superficial and deep level combination principles and methods of subway murals and itsenvironment from their co-existence perspective. Field research, literature survey, case studiesand other methods are used to conduct this work. This thesis first briefly reviews the history ofmurals and architecturals murals development. Then the architectural murals’ properties, statusand affect, and setup principles are described. The appearance and structure of murals andarchitectures are extensively analyzed. In addition, the principles and methodologies ofcombining murals into architectural environments are also studied, factors include light andcolor, shape, texture, placement, flavor, culture, function, and etc. are considered. Thisresearch may play an important role in the theoretical studies of subway public art andmeanwhile in practical guidance and reference for subway mural constrctructions. |
