In late20th Century,mainland China’s first highway opened to traffic. Henceforth, the expressway of our country has entered a rapid development period. By the end of2013, China’s highway mileage has more than one hundred thousand kilometers, ranking first in the world. More than90%present of our country highway construction are asphalt concrete pavement. However, the highway water damage phenomenon is also very serious. Asphalt concrete composite structure is a widely used type of pavement structure of Expressway in our country As the asphalt pavement inevitably contains voids, water can enter the pavement structure relatively more easier. While, due to the natural hydrophilic of aggregate, asphalt film is easily replaced by water. Under load, water will cause pavement damage, Which will cause the overall failure of pavement structure. Therefore, it is necessary to study the resistance to water damage of asphalt pavement. Both domestic and foreign road researchers have conducted a lot of fruitful studied, but most of them are focused on the indoor experiment, rather than combining with the specific construction project. This paper studied how to control and prevent water damage of asphalt pavement from indoor test and on-site construction aspects, taking the highway construction between Leshan and Zigong of Sichuan Province project and combining domestic and foreign researchers’studing.Firstly, the domestic and foreign research results for water damage of asphalt pavement is summarized and analysed. On the basis of this, the causes of water damage of Sichuan Provincial constructed highway is analysed, playing a certain guidance for the new highway construction and maintenance in Sichuan Province.Secondly, The indoor test was designed and implemented according to the investigation of climatic conditions and geographical position which the highway belongs to. The type and amount of required anti stripping agent was determined.And void ratio of surface layer was ensured.Thirdly, the specific measures to improve construction were put forward according to the construction and project management experience of author in Sichuan. So it has important practice and theory meaning.
