Basalt fiber reinforced plastic(BFRP) is a new marital has been widely used in thestrengthening of reinforced concrete structures, due to the elastic modulus of BFRP is higherthan carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP), and the high tensile resistance ability, well costperformance, insulation Property, acid, alkali and high temperature resistance ability, and soon merits. Externally Bonded(EB) method with BFRP is a widely application, safety andreliable technology. Near Surface Mounted(NSM) method is a new reinforcement methodwith high technical content which proposed in recent years. It is of great research value andsocial economic benefits to study this method. In addition, because of the method is still onthe stage of primary research, so no corresponding codes and standards are occupied present.EB method and NSM method has its individual advantages when compared with each other.Scholars has strengthened the structure members use EB or NSM method individual. However, research for using the both two methods in a structure member is few.6six shortcolumns which broken in an eccentric compression has been conducted in this paper, andfailure load experiment was carried out after strengthening with several methods. The testresults shows that: the reinforced bars can improve the shear capacity and ductility of thecolumns. An example shows that BFRP almost does not play a role at the preliminary stage ofloading, BFRP have effect at mid and late experiment period gradually.Based on reasonable assumption and simplified model, a mathematic model and designformula of NSM were proposed for bearing capacity of pre-damaged short columns undereccentric compression.
