The main reducer gear is one of the most important parts of the automotive transmission. Its assembly quality has important influence on the driving axle and the whole vehicle. How to adjust and measure main reducer gear bearing preload is one of the important problems in the process of main reducer assembly. Appropriate bearing preload can increase the bearing stifness, improve the rotation accuracy, reduce the vibration noise and prolong the life. Too large or too small bearing preload can both affect the performance of the main reducer.At first, the structure and assembly process of main reducer were described and how to adjust and measure the taper roller bearing preload was introduced.Secondly, mechanical analysis was carried out on the shafts in the main reducer. The stress condition of the main reducer housing was gotten which provided theoretical basis for the finite element analysis of the housing.Then, the finite element analysis of the housing was conducted. The deformation nephogram of the housing was gotten and the deformation of bearing cap was extracted. Along with the changing axial force, the deformation of bearing cap would be changed. The finite element analysis of the housing was conducted for several times under different axial force. The relationship between the axial force and the deformation of bearing cap is gotten and the equation between them was fitted.Finally, the test was conducted by using the main reducer test bench. The equation between the axial force and the deformation of bearing cap was verified to be correct through the comparison of the test result and simulation result, which provided the theoretical basis for the method of measuring the differential mechanism bearing preload by measuring the deformation of bearing cap.
