ABSTRACT:A level crossing is an intersection where a railway line crosses a road or path at the same level. It belongs to accident-prone area. In recent years, crossing accidents has continued in China. DX3Type Crossing Signal equipment used no longer meet the development of railway. Chinese enterprises are involved in overseas railway projects. There are number of level crossings in overseas railway projects. But Chinese enterprises have neither of experience in designing with dense railway crossing, nor meeting overseas projects for level crossing safety requirements. To promote the competitiveness for Chinese enterprises in overseas projects, they need an advanced level crossing system design. British railway crossings due to the high level of safety standards and formats it a greater impact in the world, so the majority of overseas railway projects are in British standard as a reference. Therefore, this paper research on design of level crossing system in railway project under the British standard. This paper study requirements of the British standard crossing, design function and logic of the crossing system, and analyze the key issues of practical engineering design of the crossing. These studies make this paper has important research value and practical significance.The main research work is as follows:(1) Studying British standard crossing functional requirements. Based on contrast Chinese with British standards, combined with the tender documents and the actual project experience, this paper sum up the British standard user requirements and use Quality Function Development analysis of user requirements. On the basis of enumeration method and event tree method, this paper analysis of crossing scenario.(2) A British standard crossing system solutions. The solutions includes technical conditions of equipment, functions and logic of crossing system control unit. In order to prevent the subjective interpretation leading system solutions to ambiguity and misunderstanding, this paper establishment a Petri net model of the level crossing system automatic operating mode. Petri net model is simulated to verify the designed system can achieve the desired functionality.(3) Solving the key issues of practical engineering design of the crossing, including the layout of protecting signal and control point. This paper analyzes the relationship between the safety distance and Overlap and protecting signal, and the effect of control point arrangement on crossing warning time. On this basis, this paper design to crossings protecting signal and control point in a practical line.
