In the coastal margin of southeast China reclamation engineering, it appeared a kind of new geotechnical structure Toe-shooting rock-fill dam that large buried depth and complicated section in recent years. Research on the foundation soil of Toe-shooting rock-fill dam stagnated in the summary information of engineering experience, furthermore the deformation mechanism and failure mode of this kind of dam is still unknown.Therefore, in order to analyze the stability of the dam, confirming the failure mode of the foundation is a key scientific problem needed to solve. The research results of this paper will provide support to establish the analysis method in the stability and bearing capacity of Toe-shooting rock-fill dam in nearshore thick silt layer.The main content and achievement of the paper are listed as follow:(1) According to the theoretical analysis of Toe-shooting rock-fill dam characteristics, it made a Toe-shooting rock-fill dam foundation failure mode model experiment scheme. Meanwhile manufactured a set of self-design experiment apparatus that can simulate load application at model dam and observe soil deformation.(2) Researching support construction geological condition and related literature, it made a kind of modeling soil simulated nearshore thick silt layer. Through a series of physical and mechanical index test about the different ratio of clay powder, fine sand, cement and water, finally composition, ratio and production method of modeling soilis determined.(3)Indoor model experiment was finished by using self-design experiment apparatus and modeling soil. The experiment included entirety loading condition and the preset fracture plane loading condition. It got bearing capacity characteristic curve and foundation failure mode from experimental data.(4)Model experiment process was simulated by using the finite element analysis software. Through comparing foundation deformation of numerical simulation and actual model experiment, it verified the accuracy of the indoor model experiment.(5)Becase there is a big difference between model experiment and the actual engineering project,a Toe-shooting rock-fill dam engineering projectwas simulated by using the finite element analysis software, then predicted the foundation failure mode of the actual engineering project under load. Compared with model experiment results, finally the foundation failure mode of Toe-shooting rock-fill dam was confirmedThe research achievements of the paper will greatly enrich and develop the stability analysistheory of the nearshore thick silt layer Toe-shooting rock-fill dam, meanwhile possess some practical value in engineering, have important reference value for the related research and the engineering practice.
