In the process of arterial coordination control, we need insert an appropriate transition plan between the old signal control plan and the new one to minimize system disturbance, caused by the process of switching among adjacent different signal control plans. Therefore, it is of great importance that we optimize the signal transition plan to improve the effect of arterial coordination control system. In this dissertation, in order to deal with the specific problems arising from the arterial coordination control system, we focus on the arterial traffic signal coordinated control plan transition method and do research into the methods of how to change from one timing plan to another and how to optimize the transition plan and make a comparison of different transition methods, whose destinations is to provide technical support for transition among different control plans in the process of arterial coordination control. This article mainly does these jobs:(1) we introduce some arterial traffic coordinated control theories, define and describe the problem of the transition among different control plans in the process of arterial coordination control, and lay a foundation for solving problems below.(2) Focusing on fast switching demand between control plans in the particle control system, we analyze the Dwell transition method, Add method transition and Subtract transition method, and study the characters of transition time and transition smoothness based on analysis. Consequently, we propose a fast and smooth transition method based on the optimal phase adjustment control method. This method puts the minimizing of the phase variations between different intersections as the goal to calculate the optimal phase variations between different intersections and obtain every intersection’s signal cycle during transition period based on the optimal phase variations. The experimental results show that the method can make the time that cost in the process of switching from old control plan to new one less than three cycles and the effect is better than Add method and subtract method during transition period.(3) Focusing on finding the optimal transition plan between coordination control plans, this article proposes an optimized transition method between coordination control plans based on the BLX predictive model, taking the time all cars cost from driving into the arterial to driving out of it during the transition period as the optimization goal. We compare it with fast and smooth transition plans, and the experimental results show that transition method between coordination control plans based on the BLX predictive model has higher adaptability under different traffic levels and reflects the better control effect.
