Hardware in the loop(HIL) simulation refers to the simulation that part of thephysical equipment is access to the simulation loop of the test system. On the one hand,it costs low and is more flexible than complete physical system test, on the other hand,it has a higher confidence level than pure math simulation. Based on these advantages,hardware in the loop simulation technology has been developing rapidly in the past30years. Against the as powerful as ever simulation technology, the following aspects ofwork is carried out in the paper:Firstly, the principle of hardware in the loop is illustrated, also its developmentstatus both at home and at broad are introduced. Attempted to provide a reference foracademics study on hardware in the loop technology in the future while conductingplatform selection, four most commonly real-time platform in the market, RT-LAB,space, Lab VIEW and ADI are compared in detail.Secondly, software and hardware architecture of RT-LAB real-time simulationplatform are introduced in detail. After that, the process of simulink model transferredto RT-LAB real-time model and haredware in the loop simulation model is studieddeeply using RT-LAB real-time platform.Thirdly, Digital Signal Process TMS320F28335acting as a real controller is usedin the application of hardware in the loop simulation. Based on Simulink andEmbedded Target for TI C2000DSP library,optimized model of the control algorithmis builded. Then the executable code of the target hardware F28335is auto generatedby using real-time workshop, that is called automatic code generation(CG). Theautomatic generation of model code, greatly expedites the DSP development process,shortens the implementation cycle of building hardware in the loop platform and improves the efficiency of system development.At last, on the basis of RT-LAB real-time simulation platform, permanent magnetsynchronous motor HIL simulation platform and grid side control of doubly fedinduction generation HIL simulation platform are established respectively. Hardware inthe loop simulation verifies the accuracy of automatic code generation using RTW. Thesimulation results also show HIL simulation is more convenient to perform test,canreduce development cycle and more reliable.
