Heavy truck drive axle is an important part of automotive transmission, whichwould produce a certain internal losses in mechanical transmission process. Accordingto the characteristics of drive axle transmission power loss, the theoretical analysis andexperimental research of main reducer transmission efficiency was carried out. Andcombined with multi-objective optimization theory, the main reducer is optimized tosolve the problem of heavy truck drive axle transmission efficiency.With drive axle transmission of heavy truck as research subject, the transmissionpower loss of the main reducer, which is the main component of driving axle, wasanalyzed. It was deduced that the main reducer mechanical losses and hydraulic lossesare mainly comprised of three parts of main reduction gear power loss, bearing frictionloss and churning losses of gears and other rotating parts. Mechanical engineering,tribology and other disciplinary expertise were utilized to analyze the three power lossesof main reducer. The knowledge of dynamics and power loss calculation formula wereused for mathematical modeling. According to the research of hyperboloid gearefficiency, MASTA software was applied for quantitative analysis on power loss factorsof drive axle main reducer transmission efficiency. Based on the power loss analysisand mathematical model of drive axle main reducer, the multi-objective optimizationmodel of main reducer was established with gear size, power loss and bearing frictionpower loss as optimization target. A fast elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm(NSGA-Ⅱ) was applied for main reducer optimization design to obtain the gear andother optimal structural design parameters. Based on the analysis of drive axle powerloss factors and test bench performance parameters, drive axle transmission efficiencytest program was developed. Drive axle assembly efficiency bench test was carried out.The test results verified the axle transmission efficiency theory and simulation analysisresults.Tribology professional knowledge and MASTA software were applied fortheoretical research and simulation analysis of main reducer power loss. Factors ofdriving axle transmission efficiency were obtained. According to the experiment ofdrive axle assembly efficiency bench, the experiment is consistent with drive axle mainreducer theory research and simulation result. Main reducer transmission efficiency analysis and experimental research play a significant role in drive axle transmissionoptimization and the improvement of drive axle transmission efficiency.
