With the energy and environmental problems becoming more and more important, train energy-efficient operation techniques are paid more attention as one of the effect methods to reduce operation costs and energy consumptions. The reuses of the energy which was generated during regenerated braking have a huge potential as trains of urban rail transit traction and braking frequently. This paper, the effect of headway time, synchronization time, dwell time and train operation time on the amount of energy consumption and regenerative energy usage is studied.First, based on the basic operation principle and analytical formulation of train operation, a numerical method is proposed to calculate the optimal speed profile with fixed operation time. In the method, the operation profile is divide into several sections according to braking blocks, and energy conservation strategy deduced by maximal principle is applied. An analytical formulation of multiple trains operation is built based on the single train operation method and taking the effects of power supply system and timetable into account, for accurately calculate of regenerative energy and energy consumption in the whole power supply system. This paper examines the optimization of train dwell time, and built a multiple train operation model for energy conservation of power supply system, the application of genetic algorithms is proposed for the optimization based on the current timetable. The energy consumption effect of running time between stations is also studied based on the multiple train operation model. The optimization goal is the whole energy consumption of the power supply system and the optimize parameter is the extra time of running time between stations instead of running time itself. A method based on genetic algorithms is presented to solve the problem. The actual train data, line data, power supply system data of Beijing Yizhuang subway line are employed to simulate, and the performance of simulation system is tested. The simulation result indicates that the optimization models and methods of dwell time and running time in this paper are effective and workable.
