With its widespread use as a platform plate, steel bar grating is frequently impacted bydynamic-load such as walking and mechanical vibration. Therefore, for the frequent dynamicload situation and the high seismic area, welding is a common installation method for steelgating. It is generally believed that steel gating welded on the steel beam has no effect on itsstability. In fact, steel gating provides lateral support for the steel beam. It is still unknownwhether such structure system can enhance the stability of the steel beam or not, to whatextent it improves the stability. Therefore, it is necessary to research in this field.On the basis of existing research results, using the finite element method, this paperconducted a systematic research on the bearing capacity and stability of the steel beam weldedwith steel bar grating. Some useful conclusions and new insights were obtained. The mainwork and conclusions are as follows:First of all, the background and major performances of steel bar grating in domestic wasintroduced, overseas and domestic research status on steel bar grating research wereillustrated in detail. Some unclear provisions of steel bar grating were stated emphaticallyaccording to “design of steel structure”. Some evidences to prove the influential effect on thebearing capacity and stability of steel beam when it was welded with steel bar grating wasproposed, as well as the calculation model and analysis method.Secondly, beginning with the essence of the overall stability of steel beam, this paperexpounded the overall stability of steel beam, traditional theoretical calculation method of thebearing capacity and overall stability of steel beam, then elaborating the theory of elasticflexural-torsional buckling of steel and plastic design theory. During an analysis process,disregarding the initial defects such as residual stress force, the elastic flexural-torsionalbuckling critical moment were calculated respectively under the uniform and concentratedloads.Moreover, the theoretical calculation and stress analysis were performed on the steelframe model and steel bar grating beam model respectively. Theoretical calculation results ofdisplacement and bending moment were obtained, the displacement contours and stressnephogram were obtained through ANSYS simulation analysis as well. Through their contrast,it concluded that welding steel bar grating on the steel beam could improve its stability. Undercertain load condition, reducing beam section can not only optimalize the structural systemand save steel, but it also provides a calculation model for the steel bar grating beam model design.Finally, it put forward the limitations of this study and pointed out the focus of the studyand the work to be done.
